Mexico is to be found in the southern area of North America and shares her boundaries with the United States to the north, Belize and Guatemala to the south, the North Pacific Ocean to the west and the Gulf of Mexico (including the Bay of Campeche) to the east. Mexico City is its capital and like the rest of Mexico has an amazingly diverse range of attractions on offer to visitors. There are also some excellent places to stay, including self-catering apartments and every type of hotel imaginable, from budget standard, right up to the Mexico City five star hotels that are available here.

It is understood that Mexico first became populated some 13,000 years ago by indigenous civilizations prior to being conquered in the 16th century by Spanish invaders. In 1810, however, Mexico did finally gain independence from Spain. Unfortunately, in 1846 the Mexican-American War broke out which resulted in Mexico "transferring" almost 50 percent of its territory to the USA. Since then Mexico has been invaded by the French in 1861, endured The Mexican Revolution between 1910 and 1929 and to the middle of the 1990's was dominated by an authoritarian leadership. Today, however, it is described as being a "Free and Sovereign State" that welcomes approximately 22 million international tourists each year and is said to be one of the top 10 most popular destinations on the planet.

A very good place to start one's trip is in Mexico City itself. Here one will find The Plaza de la Constitucion (Zolaco) which certainly draws much attention; and little wonder as this central plaza is encompassed by some really important buildings, including The Palacio Nacionale, Metropolitan Cathedral and The Temple Mayor. This is the place where political protests, concerts, fiestas and other major events take place and should certainly be a "must see" for most visitors. Mexico City is also the home to The Museo de Antropologia (National Anthropology Museum) which is set in Chapultepec Park and contains a more amazing collection of Mesoamerican artifacts that one could hope to find anywhere in the world. The Museo Frida Kahlo, which was once the home of Diego Rivera and his wife Frida, who were both famous painters, also draws many visitors who can peruse some of this family's personal belongings that still remain here.

Steering away from the city, Mexico boasts almost 6000 miles of beautiful coastline and fabulous beaches on which to relax and chill out and some of the most popular beach destinations include The Mayan Riviera, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco and Guerrero.

The hotels to be found in Mexico City are usually only a train ride or short walk away from some of the city's largest attractions and several of them offer a good view of Central Square itself. Those lucky enough to find lodgings facing the Square should make a point of witnessing the ceremony of the flag being lowered which takes place at 6.00 pm every evening. Interestingly, some of the cheaper hotels here do not become booked as fast as the higher scale ones, including the Mexico City five star hotels but booking well in advance of one's visit is always a good idea, irrespective of what type of hotel or other abode one chooses to stay at.

Of course one's budget always influences a person's choice of lodgings but those lucky enough to be staying at one of the Mexico City five star hotels available here should certainly experience the best that Mexico has to offer. In such establishments one can expect to be offered spacious and comfortable guest rooms (some of which offer spectacular views), internet access, fitness centers, spa facilities and the finest of bars and restaurants to wine and dine in. Those fortunate enough to be doing business in Mexico will have access to some excellent business hotels too, that in addition to the facilities and amenities outlined above, offer business centers, meeting rooms and state of the art equipment with which one can carry out their business whilst staying in magnificent surroundings.

Mexico is also the home to some amazing convention centers such as the Acapulco Convention Center which was constructed in only nine months. Here every season the most prestigious of events take place that include exhibitions, seminars and presentations of all kinds that are of utmost importance to this particular region.

Whatever time of year one visits Mexico there is always something going on from the Spring Night Festival in March to The International Festival of Music and Theater in January, which are sure to make one's visit all the more rewarding.
